This is it my final blog post for the song. I am happy to announce that the song is fully mastered and complete. This is a huge accomplishment to my high school experience because of how much work I put into it. I still believe that some things could use some work, but that's just my opinion. Music is like a painting, some people may love your design, but you still see flaws because its your design.
Timi and I have been working very hard to bring you all an amazing presentation. We found an interesting program to use for presenting called Powtoon. Its basically a cartoon animated video that you can use to create a story. Its actually a very cool program and we hope to prepare it for presenting. We have only 1 whole week left of Propel and I have to say that I have had a great time in Nelson MacIntyre making new friends, creating an awesome project, and experiencing on hands experience of making a song. I had originally said in my interview before being selected into propel that I wanted to work with hands on electrical or mechanical machines of some kind. I find it very amusing that I did completely the opposite of what I had originally been selected for. That just proves to me that I may shift gears many times over any period of time. Nothing really is set in stone and i'm glad I joined this program. It helped me explore what I truly was interested in and helped me achieve the experience I wanted to know. For those of you wanting to know my presentation day, it is on January 21st at 6:00-8:30. Hope to see you there.

We are approaching the last week for working on our projects and the pressure is on. fortunately for us, we are planning to have the song complete on Monday. This is great news for my project and I hope every one else in the program has enough time as well.
Last week and over the break I added piano, tweaked volume frequencies, adding a sweep noise, and a lot more than I can remember. The good news is that our song is so close to being done. Every time I listen to the song It blows my mind away again, and again. The song surprises everyone that I show and I cant wait to present it! The final stage of our song is to master the recording. I have not much knowledge of mastering but I know that it further enhances the song. We also need to prepare for our presentation on the 21st and make sure were prepared to talk about it. This is the most concerning part for me at this moment because I am not very confident speaker. I am however very confident with what we have to present for the audience. I am really excited to see what I can do with the song once It is fully complete! Thanks for checking in. We are nearly finished the good copy of our song and have already started to add more instruments. We have finally reached the last week before the winter break. This means we have less that a month left to work on the song. I will have to spend some of my winter break editing the recordings made and start to make the rest of the song sound more full and enhanced. We are nearly finished the good copy of our song and we're ready to start adding more instruments.
Today is our last day before the break sadly and we wont be back until January the fourth. Our main focus this week was to finish the vocal and harmony recordings. We managed to complete vocals, but we need more time on the harmony. This morning we recorded bass guitar and this after noon we're going to add electric guitar. The following winter break, I am going to look into adding another drum set for a better variety of beats. I will also see if a bit of piano chords will help add a good effect to the song as an additional instrument of choice. But for most of the weekend i will be editing what we have right now to make sure everything is balanced and compressed for good volume, and all instruments have a full sound. Thank you for reading again. Firstly I would like to tell you about last weeks progress to the song. Previously we were working on completing the rough recording of our whole song. Everything up until the first recording is starting to sound like a acoustic rock song you would hear on the radio. We managed to wrap up the finals touches needed to complete the rough recording on the following Monday morning.
The last 4 days this week after Monday have been very productive. we've put long days of constant practice and research into making our song sound better every time we listen back to it. We are recording each individual instrument, tweaking it a little bit, and finally listening back to our song to see how it all sounds together. This is the main structure of how our project workflow has been looking. Were getting excellent feed back and suggestions for improvement and it is starting to improve our song greatly. We managed to get the first verse vocals almost perfectly. I was blown away when I learned how to enhance the audio like that. We began to record the vocals and guitar for verse 1 and the chorus. We know that we'll still need to change the majority recordings and edits from the chorus. This is because it is the most important part of the song. We must spend the most time perfecting the chorus next weekend to continue our good progress. I would also like to mention that we are hoping to be finished the project around the middle of January. Thanks for checking in again! This week we had planned to finish our rough copy of our song. I am happy to say that we have almost delivered that today. There are some minor tweaks that are still needed to the recording but as of now, it is really starting to sound like a song on the radio or you tube. We have been working very hard on the song and were really hoping that it turns out.
Our song now has the guitar, vocals, and drum beat incorporated to play all in the correct timing. I am still considering to add more instruments to our piece. I have talked with some other student in the propel program named David and Connor and I believe they may be able to help add something extra. After listening to the song, David said that he could add some bass guitar needed to make the song sound better. I had asked Connor if he could add a cool riff to the song and he said that may be possible. Next week, I am hoping to start working on our good copy of our song using the rough copy to listen to while making our final product. I will also be looking into learning some good effects and sounds that will ultimately enhance the music. I am assuming this stage to be the most time consuming part. Anyway, thanks for checking in! This week we got a start on our rough edit version of our song. Basically this is our beginning piece of our finished song, its what we will reference when making our actual recording.
Another thing that I have been working on is the drum beat we adding. I do not play the drums and neither does Timi so I am going to add drum plugins from the computer. I know that the drums will go well with our song, plus its also much easier to make than recording regular drums. I've heard that it is extremely hard to get a great recording of drums so adding the drums in studio plugins will be my job alone because i'm looking to get a fourth credit in computer music production. The additional credit that i'm getting requires me to get 110 hours by the end of the semesters since the program is only half the year. Overall I have been really enjoying the program and have researched a lot of things I wanted to learn. If I had to assume, id say that everyone else in the program is also having a great time. Our projects will be amazing once finished. This week in Propel was very packed for both assignments and project study time. The week is also very short for the amount of work we needed to finish because Friday morning is off. We had also gone to We Day which took up all our project work time on Monday. We day had some really inspiring speakers but I feel the message was more directed to grade 7 and 8.
The week was very busy because time was crammed and we had a lot of jobs to complete. This includes Friday morning off because we are just receiving report cards. Wednesday we had our Toastmasters speech to finish and the following day we needed to finish our Gym presentation to hand in. I can recall a couple days where we started a half hour early Monday and Thursday when We day and Gym presentations were finished. Throughout the week we took any spare time we had to work on our song and recording. On Wednesday I showed up an hour early to test record to improve background noise because the room was emptier and quiet before school starts. Eventually we are going to need to sound proof this back room for recording. This will require us to buy special foam that removes echo sounds in the room. This will help us make better quality recordings for the song. Next week we will have more time for our project, thank you for checking in. This week, we open up all of our recording equipment and started learning the process of recording.
We started recording with the Ipad first. I would like to point out that the Ipad is much easier to record, but it is very limited to what we can do to our recording. Today we decided to switch gears and record with my laptop. The laptop provides us with a more organized interface to record with. Although it is a lot more complex than the Ipad, I am willing to learn the software if it will help us deliver a better recorded song.I will have to do a lot more research on Fruity Loops studios as the software is called. I will look up a you tube tutorial or use the main website for help. I will also have to start considering what i want the drum beat to sound like. While I am researching the recording process, I will also have to learn how to put together the drum beat for our song. It is very critical that the tempo goes along with our drum beat and the song otherwise it will not sound good. This weekend I will be working hard on learning the information i need in order to get our song put together. That's all the news for this week. Thanks for staying up to date Firstly, I wanted to say that we now have all the equipment needed to record our song. It appears that our trip to Long and Mcquade was unnecessary because of this. We discussed this with our teachers to make sure we had everything we needed. Were hoping withing he next week we will start to install he equipment an later on start recording. Something i wanted to change about recoring is how we are going to edit the song. We have an IPad with garage band studio on it, but I would much rather prefere to use a computer instead of just the iPad. I know that the Ipad is going to work for the editing we need done, but i believe that its a bit more simple and practical to use a computer as a primary source of editing. Im sure the IPads will still come in handy at times when we need it, but I believe a laptop or computer would work much better for what were planning to do in the future. I was thinking that my laptop om home would work just fine for editing and connecting the USB interface to. The USB interface is just a box that you plug the micophone to and computer so that you can record and edit with ease. With the IPads, we would need a NI USB block that would convert the iPad charger to USB so that it can connect to the interface. If i can bring in my laptop to record, it wouldn't cost us any more in our budget. A picture of the NI USB block is posted below. With all this in mind we can start recording our first song in as little time as a week. Thank you for checking in on my project.
This weeks blog post will continue to talk about my progress in the project. We have mainly been researching information on our song and already have some equipment ready to set up.
Since a music video can be fairly difficult to deliver to an audience, we decided to do something different We decided that we should give more time into creating another song. Here’s a list of the equipment we have so far.
Some of the items we are still going to need are listed below.
Thanks for keeping up to date. |
